Understanding both the proper and pathological metabolism of glucose is obviously of critical importance to deciphering the dysregulation of glucose that leads to Type 2 diabetes, a disorder of metabolism that morbidly afflicts 35 million Americans and perhaps close to 200 million worldwide.
