| Description: | In vitro binding assays for the phencyclidine site of NMDA-type glutamate receptors, and for sigma-1 receptors, both of which are known to be bound by DM, were conducted by Sekisui Medical Co., Ltd. of Ibaraki, Japan. In these assays, DM acts as an antagonist at NMDA receptors, which are excitatory in their effects, thereby allowing DM to reduce, calm, and modulate unwanted neuronal activity in neuronal networks that are activated by glutamate agonist activity at NMDA receptors. DM acts as an agonist at sigma-1 receptors, which are inhibitory receptors, thereby allowing DM to reduce unwanted neuronal activity by a second mechanism. |
