Roles for estrogen in mammalian female reproductive development are among the best defined, but estrogen also plays a part in regulation of skeletal cancer, (cardio)vascular function, the central nervous system as well as in the immune system. Stimulation with estrogen induces many signaling pathways, leading to an array of cellular responses including adhesion, migration, survival, proliferation and angiogenesis in both normal and neoplastic tissues [Edwards et al., 2005].
