HePTP is a tyrosine phosphatase expressed in hematopoietic cells and regulates the MAP kinases Erk and p38. It has been found that HePTP is often dysregualted in the preleukemic disorder myelodysplastic syndrome, as well as in acute myelogeneous leukemia.
